Honduran Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery in New Orleans; Faces Possible Deportation

A Honduran man could face at least 20 years in prison and possible deportation after attempting a robbery with a minor, who was fatally shot.

New Orleans, USA – Teony Juárez, an 18-year-old Honduran national, is facing possible deportation and a minimum 20-year prison sentence following an attempted armed robbery in New Orleans.

On Tuesday, December 3, Juárez was caught on surveillance footage robbing a convenience store in West Lake Village alongside Cecil Batiz, a 16-year-old minor.

A viral video circulating on social media shows Juárez entering the store wearing a hood and wielding a gun, pointing it at the cashier while his accomplice moved around the store.

According to police reports, both suspects held two employees at gunpoint in an attempt to steal from the store.

Juárez took the cash, but as they tried to flee, a store employee attempted to stop them and opened fire, injuring Juárez and fatally shooting the minor.

Juárez is now facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and illegal possession of a firearm—offenses that carry a minimum 20-year prison sentence.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Juárez entered the country illegally on April 14, 2023, crossing near Eagle Pass, Texas.

ICE has issued a detainer request, asking the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office to hold Juárez for an additional 48 hours after his judicial process concludes, so he can be transferred to immigration authorities.
