PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Police say two men are in the hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds on Sunday.
The Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) says officers responded to a call for a shooting in the 3500 block of Towne Point Road around 9:15 a.m. The location is also a populated shopping center, the Shoppes at Town Pointe.
Saw the center of the investigation appeared to focus on a section of the shopping center’s parking lot, and inside a shop called “Smoke Guyz.”
Investigators did not release any suspect information or any motive for what could have led up to this double shooting. Limited information reveals police arrived to find the two men suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Fatia Stephens, who works right next door, said detectives would not let her onto the property until they wrapped up their investigation.
“I don’t feel safe, I even told my bosses like can you please give us some security,” said Stephens. “When I pulled up I saw just yellow tape everywhere, a cop standing by the side, it’s just crazy.”
One employee who did not want to appear on camera, told she called 911 after another woman ran into her shop begging for help as the shooting took place.
Stephens said it’s not the first time violence has taken place at the shopping center.
“They’ve gotten robbed, somebody had gotten stabbed, somebody got shot, they broke the glass – they are doing the most. I don’t know why people are doing the most,” said Stephens.
The two men were taken to the hospital by medics.
PPD says there are no other details available right now. The investigation is ongoing.
