New York Knicks next head coach odds: Who will take over for Tom Thibodeau?

Fresh off an Eastern Conference finals berth, the New York Knicks are in search of a new head coach.

The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday after five seasons.

And with that, the hiring process begins in the Big Apple.

Let’s check out the odds for who will land the job at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 8.

Knicks next head coach to start 25-26 regular season

Jason Kidd: -180 (bet $10 to win $15.56 total) 1300
Johnnie Bryant: +180 (bet $10 to win $28 total)
Michael Malone: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total)
Jay Wright: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)
Dan Hurley: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)
Steve Nash: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)
Taylor Jenkins: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)
Rick Brunson: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)

Under Thibodeau, the Knicks made four playoff appearances in five seasons, including that trip to the East finals this season, where they lost in six games to the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks had not made it to the Eastern Conference finals since the 1999-2000 season, where they also lost to the Pacers in six games.

Thibodeau had an overall regular-season record of 226-174 as head coach of New York. He was 24-23 in the postseason.

From an odds standpoint, who will next coach the Knicks appears to be up in the air.

When the odds opened, at the top of the oddsboard to replace Thibodeau was Michael Malone, who most recently coached the Denver Nuggets but was fired on April 8, with three games left in the 2024-25 regular season.

Malone was then overtaken by Cleveland associate head coach Johnnie Bryant, who was reported to be one of two finalists to land the head coaching job in Phoenix.

That job instead went to Cavs assistant coach Jordan Ott, and with that, Bryant moved from +400 to -140.

Bryant served as associate head coach for the Knicks from 2020-2024.

However, another change has occurred, with a current NBA coach taking over as the favorite: Dallas’ Jason Kidd.

On June 5, Kidd was at +1300 to take over in New York, but as of June 8, he’s at -180, a huge swing from an odds standpoint.

Kidd previously coached the Nets for one season (2013-14), before spending a little over three seasons with the Bucks (2014-18). He’s spent the last four seasons in Dallas, where the Mavs have twice missed the playoffs, once lost in the conference finals and once lost in the NBA Finals.

Kidd also spent one season — his final season — playing for the Knicks in 2012-13.
